Goals 3 and 6: Innovative Engagement and Courageous Partnering and Entrepreneurship
NC State's land-grant mission extends beyond campus to North Carolina and the world. In service to that mission, we partner to deliver solutions that improve lives.
Focused on the Future
NC State is a key partner in creating a bright future for North Carolina and beyond. Engineering North Carolina’s Future aims to meet the state’s workforce demands through increasing the number of engineering graduates. Innovative new curricula like the Pappas Real Estate Development Program will produce well-prepared and career-ready graduates. We’ve partnered with Google, Apple and Fujifilm Diosynth to expand our industry partnerships and economic impact.
Outstanding Engagement
NC State excels at leveraging its statewide reach to bring solutions to North Carolina citizens. The Belk Center’s North Carolina Teaching and Learning Hubs are helping community college faculty and staff increase student success outcomes. The Institute for Emerging Issues and Cooperative Extension are improving digital access and literacy statewide. These and other initiatives helped NC State once again achieve recognition as an APLU Innovation and Prosperity Designee.
Our faculty work tirelessly to increase our engagement with the world beyond campus, and they’re getting noticed. In 2021 and 2022, faculty members Jane Hoppin and Bonnie Fusarelli, respectively, received the Gov. James E. Holshouser Jr. Award for Excellence in Public Service for exemplifying the UNC System’s commitment to service and community engagement.

Entrepreneurial Leadership
Entrepreneurship is embedded in every corner of university life. Engineering students improve their entrepreneurial thinking in partnership with the Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network. Entrepralooza, the VenturePack Challenge and Make-A-Thon bring students and community partners together to develop new ideas and companies. Centennial Campus continues to be home to vibrant interactions between faculty, students, business and community.
