Goal 4: Inclusive and Healthy Culture
NC State applies its Think and Do mindset to creating an inclusive, welcoming and supportive environment for all. We envision and enact positive community changes that make our university a better place to work, learn and serve.
Supporting the Whole Student
NC State takes a holistic approach to student support. Through embedded mental health clinicians and off-campus referral resources, we’ve improved student access to counseling services. Counselors are now present in all NC State colleges, the Graduate School, Institute for Advanced Analytics and the Caldwell, Goodnight and Park Scholars programs, as well as through other student support programs.
Students can access free apps with tools to manage stress and access to peer support communities. As a JED Campus, we are engaged in a comprehensive process to further strengthen our support for student mental health and suicide prevention.
An Inclusive Pack
NC State lives out its value of inclusion every day. Our four campus community centers are a vital part of campus life for many African American, LGBTQ, multicultural and women students. We’re implementing the recommendations of the Black Faculty Retention and Success Task Force to address the challenges of retaining Black faculty in academia. Faculty, particularly from underrepresented or historically marginalized populations, are benefiting from new mentoring tools and education programs. We’ve also been recognized for our efforts to improve equity and inclusion policies and practices for STEMM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine) faculty through the AAAS SEA Change program.
113 Mentors, 124 Mentees
Faculty and graduate students are taking part in the Mentoring Matters program within the Office for Faculty Excellence.
